Say No to Drugs- Srinivas Institute of Technology

The Srinivas Institute of Technology at Valachil, Mangaluru hosted a significant event aimed at raising awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promoting mental health. This event, organized as part of the Nasha Mukth Bharat campaign, was tailored to educate and engage first-year students, blending informative discussions with creative performances. Guest Lecture by Dr. Damini Rane The event featured an insightful talk by Dr. Damini Rane, a Consultant Psychiatrist and Deputy Medical Superintendent at Dr. Thunga’s Manaswini Hospital in Mangaluru. Dr. Damini, a respected figure in the mental health field, delivered an impactful presentation on the physical and mental health effects of drug abuse. Her talk emphasized the severe consequences of drug addiction, both on a personal and societal level. Dr. Damini detailed the way substances like alcohol, narcotics, and prescription medications can affect the human body, leading to chronic illnesses, cognitive impairments, and emotional instability. She highlighted how addiction does not just harm the physical aspects of health but also profoundly disrupts mental well-being. Conditions such as anxiety, depression, and even psychosis are often linked with substance abuse, creating a vicious cycle that’s difficult to escape. The emphasis of her talk was on early intervention, coping strategies, and the importance of mental health awareness, especially in young adults. Dr. Damini’s focus on the holistic approach to treatment and prevention struck a chord with the audience, many of whom are at an age where peer pressure and experimentation can lead to dangerous choices. Women’s Health Program In conjunction with the anti-drug message, a Women’s Health Program was conducted for the first-year female students. This program aimed to create a safe space for young women to discuss issues specific to their health and well-being. The health program addressed various aspects of women’s physical health, encouraging students to take charge of their bodies, understand the importance of mental wellness, and make informed decisions about their health. Skit Performance by students of Roshni Nilaya and St. Aloysius College. In addition to the educational content, a powerful and moving skit was performed by the talented students of Roshni Nilaya College and St. Aloysius College. Their performance creatively captured the challenges faced by individuals struggling with drug addiction, offering a raw and emotional portrayal of how drug abuse devastates lives. The skit was more than just an artistic representation; it was an eye-opener for many students. Through drama, the students were able to convey the harsh realities of drug abuse, breaking down the stigma that often surrounds the topic. The audience, comprised of Srinivas Institute of Technology students, were visibly moved and engaged throughout the performance, with many expressing their appreciation for the realistic and empathetic portrayal of a sensitive subject.
