Drug Abuse Awareness Programme for College Students

A Drug Abuse Awareness Programme was organized for the students of St Aloysius Institute of Management & Information Technology (AIMIT), Kotekar Beeri, in association with Dr. Thunga’s Manaswini Hospital, Arkula, and the Mangaluru Police Department.

The resource person, Dr. George Sebastian, Consultant Psychiatrist at Dr. Thunga’s Manaswini Hospital, delivered an insightful session on the different types of drugs, their patterns of use, and the physical and psychological problems that result from substance abuse. He also highlighted how drug addiction can significantly impact an individual’s mental health, emotional stability, and academic performance.

Adding a law enforcement perspective, ASI Mr. Yogish from the Mangaluru Police Department shared valuable insights on the legal consequences and real-life cases related to drug abuse. He urged students to stay vigilant, make responsible choices, and help spread awareness among their peers.

The programme was arranged and supported by Rev. Dr. Kiran Cotha SJ, Director, AIMIT Centre, and Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis SJ, Vice Chancellor. The event was coordinated by Dr. Rakesh Kumar B and Dr. Steeven D’Souza, with active participation from the faculty and students.

The session aimed to educate young minds about the dangers of substance abuse, foster mental health awareness, and encourage a collective effort towards building a drug-free and healthy community.
